About PNARS

Why a Progressive Non-Animal Research Society?

The Progressive Non-Animal Research Society (PNARS) is a non-profit organization that brings the message of innovative, humane, biomedical breakthroughs to the the health care professional/scientific community and supports emerging and established scientists in the fields of biomedical research, testing and training who use, or are interested in using, new approach methodologies (NAMs) – often referred to as non-animal methods.

Much has changed since the mapping of the human genome in the latter part of the 20th century. Scientists now have sophisticated, human-relevant methods for studying diseases and toxicology: advanced computer-modeling techniques, micro-dosing, stem cell-derived organoids, 3D printing and manifold emerging approaches. The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 highlights the need for rapid advances in research on the mechanisms of infection and the testing of drugs without the delays and failures inherent in animal-based trials.

Advances in technology and implementation of cutting edge NAMs are allowing us to find common ground in efforts to improve health care without inflicting harm on animals and to attain a higher level of reliability and predictability of outcomes for drugs and treatments.

The PNARS website provides the latest leading edge breakthroughs in human-relevant technologies and treatments. It is designed to serve as a resource for the biomedical community.
